Default will i need.................?

engine suffered big end failure, will i need a new sump with the rebuild?

or can i clean/reuse the old one?

They are difficult to clean due to the baffle plates but not impossible.
You will prob need a new Modine oil cooler if you have suffered big end failure as they are almost impossible to clean.
Make sure you clean the cylinder head oil gallery's (and oil restrictor jets) to ensure all debris from your big end failure is removed from the heads.

any tips on how to clean the sump??

i have used a jet wash which has removed most of it but still debris at the bottom in the corners etc.

A large bucket to put the sump in,heavy duty de-greaser and a scotch brite pad/pot scrubber and a whole lot of elbow grease.

like i say most of it is already out just a few little odd spots under the baffles.
