Unhappy piston rings??????

hi can some1 tell me if a compression test will tell me if my piston rings are gone + how much would a compression test cost and how much would it cost to repair if they are i have a my99 uk on standard internals

Find somewhere which will do a Compression Test and a Cylinder Leakdown test to help pinpoint the problem area - you will prob end up needing a full rebuild if its the original engine.

Compression test is easy. Plug out. £20 meter in. Start car (making sure it's not going to fire). Shouldn't cost too much to get done and will show lower compression which would point to piston problems.

Not so, it could be valves. You need a leakdown test too.
