Fitting a TMIC at the front?
Seeing as the big aftermarket TMIC I've got is supposed to be good for 400+ bhp, I am wondering about the pros & cons of fitting it where a FMIC would go. It would save the cost of a new intercooler, and the pipework could be fabricated with a saw and a welder out of £20 of pipe and the brackets are an easy fabrication. Of course the thickness may be an issue, I've lost the daylight now, but will measure it tomorrow. Anyone tried this?
In principal it should work... BUT... the one notable hindrance IMHO is the fact that the Y-pipe inlet on the back will hinder airflow through it and therefore its cooling efficiency. But the main issue for me is that it's not big enough i.e. you'd be wasting the advantage of the available space and, therefore, potentially a greater surface area e.g. at the very least, it could be taller.
Also, you'll have to be pretty handy with the welder, mandrel press, getting various tubing bends and hose couplings correct, etc, etc.

sell it, use money to buy front mount. if you want to put an intercooler on the front might aswell buy one designed for the job.
sti top mounts are good for 400bhp in normal position.
but if your doing it for ***** and giggles, go for it. i'd be interested following it
