Default Whats needed to get above 350BHP?

I'm getting my car next week, which has already been modded. I've got a printout showing 355BHP.....but if im honest this seems too high for the mods which I have.

I've got receipts for the following mods:
Uprated fuel pump
Induction Kit
Full new exhaust, all de-cat
Remap

What else might I have?? And from looking under the bonnet, how could I tell what else has been done? The dump valve sounded different to other cars I've seen, but would this make any difference?

What would be next to get near 400? Would that include new clutch, gearbox work etc? Would a new turbo and remap be a good way to go or would I need a lot more done?

Its an 03 STi by the way

That figure is achievable on those mods, although 330ish would be more common.

Dump valve would make not one iota of difference to power output, but some aftermarket ones can have a deleterious effect on the way the car drives. Usually best to stick with the OE one.

Unless you're used to a car with 350bhp, I suggest you enjoy that for a while before you start looking for more power. Things get expensive quickly!

355bhp does seem at the very upper limit of what you might expect with those mods and a remap (although seeing as it is a 5 year old car, I expect around 320 - 340 would be more likely).

As for going to 400:
650cc injectors (adding a FPR and uping the fuel pressure might get you there on your existing injectors, but I am not sure).
MD321H Turbo
If you are still running stock headers, you may get improved results fitting a set of turbular heades.
Remap
Should get you pretty close.

Cluch and gearbox will still be OK at those levels.

Yeah, I dont know why its so high, but I do have the printout here.

Ns04. Your right, I am deffo going to get use to the car! I will need to save up thats all, so was thinking of how much I may need to save up really. Not wanting to sound stupid, but I don't know anything really about the Impreza engine, but where is the dump valve? As I will check when I pick the car up.

Cheers STIFreak as well. So really, Injectors, Turbo, Headers and remap I should price up for to get a rough idea.

Thanks guys

So you haven,t got the car yet AND already you want 400bhp..

How about using it for a few months first, then if i was you i,d get it handling better first, you,ll be suprised how capable a WELL SETUP 350 bhp similar torque car can be............

Thanks for that. It gives me something to aim for. I was thinking around £2k, but if it's around £3k thats ok.

Can you do it in stages? Like change the turbo 1st.....say if there was a group buy etc, then get the injectors, then finally get the remap. Or should it all be done at once?

Thanks

nope, you will need a remap after injectors, and really you should get one done, if you change the turbo. get all the bits over time, some great bargains to be had on here and dare i say ebay. then when you have it all. fit and call a mapper up. simon(jollygreenmonster)Andy F,Bob Rawle are all world class.

try calling them up and discussing your requirements and they will point you in the right direction

Yeah, cheers mate. Makes sense if a bargain turbo comes up for sale for example, to buy it, and over time get it all, then wack it all on together. I imagine the 'feeling' of the extra power all at once would be better as well than doing it in stages all the time.

Drive it first for a while then see what you want. Dont worry about chasing 400bhp yet IMO, more important/useful things to be done first.

You won't get any performance improvement from just changing the injectors (for instance), but you will need the injectors to supply enough fuel for the extra air the new turbo will be blowing, to make the extra bhp. Save up and do it all at once, it will cost you less in the long run ... and in the mean time, get used to driving the car.

It is also worth keeping an eye on the For Sale section, it's a buyers market and there are bargains to be had.

Agree, a chat to Bob, AndyF or Simon would be worthwhile.

Thanks for the adice again rick and freak

The car has had some handling mods as well. A few that I can think of are anti-lift kit, ARB's, Spec C suspension etc. Nothing done to the brakes as of yet.

I will definitely be getting use to the car as it is a big step up for me. It will take me a year or so to save up £3k, so I should hopefully be use to the car by then, and hungry for more power! lol

Cheers

In this market best to wait a bit, things will be coming on to the market cheaper. Definately get brakes upgraded before you go to the next stage. Get on the next K-Sport group buy.

i know for def the car ran 338bhp, but isn't over 350. its well known to the members on mids scoobies.

tbh a larger turbo and remap should get you over 350.

Cheers Tidgy

I've took a photo of the 355BHP graph. I'm by no means saying my car is at 355BHP, as the mods dont seem to match that. 340BHP (ish) does sound more like it doesnt it.

Aren't the brembo's overly good for +350BHP?

depends how you use them tbh, its more down to how you use it to what brakes you require,

Yeah, I'm real happy I've got such a minter to be honest. I was a bit dubious getting a modded car. There has been plenty, well a bit done to the engine but also handling mods as well

cheaper yep, but no gaurenties that the mods have been fitted properly and all the things that need doing have been done.

exception to that is if the mods were done by a reputable company and you can confirm they know all baout the car.

Mine has a slipping clutch now, after 6-1/2 years 41,000 miles and (eventually) around 400 bhp.
