Default How To Reverse Mount a Turbo To Shorten The Incooler Outlet Pipe?

Hi all,

I've got a FMIC intercooler and I can't help but think the oulet pipe from the Turbo to the FMIC hinders performance because it bends back on itself.

I've just bought some inlt manifold spaces to help heat resistance and also allow me to fit a bigger diameter oultet pipe.

Whilst I was fitting them, I was looking at the turbo and I thought that if the outlet pipe on the turbo could be twisted some how, to make it face the wing, instead of facing into to the engine bay, that I could reduce the lenght of pipework and get rid of the double back bend altogether.

I don't want to get to all the expense of fitting a twisted turbo conversation, but is there a simple way to flip the outlet pipe so it faces the wing?

The compressor housing can be rotated so the outlet is facing the wing. However you will need to relocate your actuator.

Don't suppose you know how to relocate it do you?

Also, is rotating the compressor housing that simple, in that all the bolts will line up etc... of are there any other mods that need to be done? like new oil line etc...?

It's not worth the hassle for the gains recieved.

I went through the ball ache of reversing my inlet manifold and it wasn't worth the hassle.

Hi,

I don't want to reverse the inlet manifold, I like my Air con too much, and I can't be bothered with all the greif and cost of getting a eletric power steering pump to keep it.

Equally I don't want to carry out a twisted turbo conversation with a different up pipe and down pipe etc...

I just want to rotate my turbo outlet to face the off side inner wing instead of facing into the engine bay.

We do the upside down compressor housing thing. Rotate the alloy compressor housing so that it is facing outwards and underneath then you just need some one to make and alloy weld on a bracket for the wastegate actuator in a new position, as Slowboy says.

The alloy housing then faces outwards almost level with the chassis rail then we chop the intercooler pipes around and run the pipe along the chassis rail and feed it through between the o/s headlamp and the rad straight out onto the intercooler rad.

Just need to be brave and saw the intercooler pipes about and buy silicone elbows to create the shape.

Worth doing that, as it saves about 3 feet of length.

Sorry mate I misread what you were trying to achieve.

Thanks APiDav, don't suppose you sell a suitable bracket? That way I can just get someone to weld it on for me.

Has anyone else done this? Are there any problems to be aware of? And is there any noticable reduction in turbo spool?

There are too many different shapes to have a supply we make as we need.

It needs to be strong though as you don't need the wastegate actuator bracket bending rather than holding the gate shut.

That sort of depends upon the size of the turbo - not easy to answer of the cuff.
