Default IS IT AN STI ENGINE???

hi everyone, iv been offered a subaru impreza 2004 engine from a local guy a friend knows, it has variable cam timing pulleys on the inlet cams, a td04 turbocharger, a silver manifold (not red like sti usually are) but have heard some uk sti have silver manifold???

thing is he bought it a while ago and thats the only info he got

thing that makes me think could be an sti is the variable cam timing which im not sure would be on a lower wrx model...

also if it was to be an sti uk engine would that mean it would have forged pistons ect?

It's very unlikely that an STI would have a TD04. It just wouldn't make STI power with it.

There should be cross hatchings on the block to indicate it is a Closed Deck Block, it should have that if its an STI.

TD04 and silver intake = WRX engine. Are the VVT items you describe actually the TGV's ??

MY '04 wont have a CDB - they are semi-open deck on the STi.
Sounds like a WRX from the description by the OP.
