Its possible that the electromagnetic coil inside is permanently energised causing it to overheat and burn out.
Any fault codes stored in the ECU ? - that might narrow the fault down.

Thanks Mick, but i don't think there are any fault codes that i know of, no flashing or warning lights on the dash.

Boost seems normal also, 0.8-0.9 bar. If its always energized, are there other ways to confirm?

If there's anyone who experienced the same, before the whole cap melts

A quick check is to disconnect the electrical connector (with the ignition off) on the solenoid and measure the resistance across the 2 terminals of the Solenoid side - should be in the region of 20 ohms.

Are you saying its happened to more than one?

My 3 port I bought of someone from here looks slighlty melted. I just thought they were all like that.

Ciaran
Had the downpipe installed bout January this 2008, it's not wrapped. Engine compartment seems hotter compared to other 'regular' cars, but just my subjective observation and assumed it to be being a turbo. Just odd that only the top part of the solenoid cap is melting.

Haven't replaced it yet since seems no boost problems yet, just happened to this one. Bit worried if the whole cap would eventually totally melt as little of the rubber/plastic cap material has already dripped onto the engine bay.
