Default Dump Valve

Hi, new to this. Just was wondering if the dump valve is supposed to be released by the clutch or the release of the throttle??

Mine is throttle but some people say by clutch..

Anyone tell me this??

Is mine wrong or does it not matter??

Cheers

Carl

The dumpvalve is released by the vacuum in the inlet when you shut the throttle. So long as you have been on boost and you then release the throttle the vacuum will then suck the diaphram off the dumpvalve and then release the excess boost pressure. Nowt to do with the clutch

Just a another 1.. Is the valve supposed to be open when engine is running??

Mine is open(idle) and shuts when revs are put on. And obviously open's when on boost.

Just took her to a shop to see about upgrading..

And he said let me have a look what you got.. Rev'd engine did some stuff and said your dump valve is dirty and shouldnt be doing this... he said it doesn't seem to be letting out the air.

Being a little unsure of what to do. I put the question out..

Do i need a new one? or is he trying to get my custom??

Yeah it should be in the open position when at idle as there will be vacuum in the inlet manifold. As soon as the pressure in the manifold comes positive then the valve will close and therefore hold boost

The car I bought had a dump valve on. Who knows if it was a contributing factor as it was sticking, but the engine was shot. Told the garage to rip if off and bin it
