Default oil leak from sump - gasket?

hi,

i`ve recently had oil leaking from my sump which was rusty - i swapped it for a reasonable second hand one, but its leaking more than ever now where it contacts the engine case.

I tightened all the bolts up and put a thin layer of engine gasket sealant on the mating surfaces but it still leaked.

Should there be a gasket there? There wasn`t one when i took the old sump off. Its an EJ20 non turbo engine by the way.

cheers,
mike

Well the turbo engine doesn't use a gasket, only sealant.

make sure its the 1215 too as threebond have a large range for different metals, make sure both surfaces are clean and dry but with the three bond if a little oil does go between the surfaces while your refitting the sump it dont really affect the seal i used this on my rocker cover last year too, and on the girlfriends cam cover on the back of the sport head which are prone too leaking which gives the effect of the sump leaking as it runs under the engine
