How can you identify heads?
I have a JDM WRX I am stripping and it has had a replacement engine and I have no idea what heads are on it, is there a way to tell what version they are?
The block is closed deck and it's supposed to have a 2.2 stroker kit in but other than that I have no idea. The cam pulleys are metal if that helps.

I have no idea about newages, but if it's a classic, look at your inlet manifold. If where it bolts to the heads, the four bolts are in a straight line you've got version 1-4 heads. If they are two pairs offset from each other, then it's a v5+. The v1-2 rocker covers will say '4 CAM' on them or something like that, whereas v3+ are completely plain. v1-2 spark plug holes are a squared off kind of shape whereas v3+ are more of an oval. V3/4 heads say LH-B or RH-B close to the exhaust ports.
More can be revealed about exactly which model they are once you have the rocker covers off and can take a cam out. There are no other obvious serial numbers or identifying marks on Subaru head castings that can tell you anything.
The fact that it's a CDB with metal pulleys makes me think maybe it's a v1-2, but follow the above to be sure. How do you know it's a CDB? Does it have the cross hatching around the oil filter mount?
