where abouts are the above, and how would you go about checking it?

if it happened to you, how would you narrow down what the cause of the problem is.

Well personally i would replace the thermostat and make sure the whole system is bled properly.

On the passenger side of your radiator where the pipe goes into the engine, i believe that is where your thermostat is located.

If it still does it then your matrix is up the duff, ive heard that's a dashboard out job though ive never attempted it.

get someone to check it out who know what there doing. could be a number of things, thermastat, impellers on the water pump, blocked matrix, or the cables on the heater control, no point just guessing

If there was a blockage or impellers on the water pump have gone he'd have kissed his engine goodbye by now.
