You've already got a dump valve, and it's the best one for the car to ensure smooth and reliable running. Do a search if you want more proof, it's been done to death. A waste of several hundred pounds for nothing more than a noise on the plus side, and lots of potential problems on the negative side.

Silly noise √
Silly money √
More power X
Better running X
Reliable X
Possible trouble √
No point √

I agree with Corrodoboy too.

I got one fitted like an idiot (only calling myself one; no offence to anyone else). It fcuked up Maff Censor (sp.) and created a fault, to cause my car to judder. Never again! The dumping sound was awful! I couldn't class it as cool at all. Each time it made that farting sound, my car sounded like some Double Decker in Oxford, opening doors for more passangers I took the damn thing out, took it back to Halfords, and got my money back.

^That's my experience-based opinion.

Each of their own. So get it, if you like it. I have heard quite a few people fitting them, and having no problems.

I agree with the others now - i didn't at first i was about to put 1 on this weekend after i was given 1 but i read about them duffing up Maf Sensors and ive just paid £100 for a new Maf so i thought why put something on thats gonna break things faster than i can afford to replace them plus i have a 1999 WRX which are prone to the dodgy Maf syndrome.

Entirely up to you of course your money, your car - have fun

He doesn't say he's running any wildly excessive boost, so the OE should be perfect. The plastic diaphragm can split, but that's usually when running boost to achieve over 400bhp.

I fitted one to my wrx bug. Novelty lasted for about 3 weeks. So sold it on. I did notice the car was not quite as smooth on gear changes with it fitted but no other problems and mine was a £30 cheapy job.

Your choice.

I had one on my old Type UK, same problem it buggered up the pickup of the car after gear changes.

Stay clear.

That's what I heard too, although your car will be more economical and smoother with the OEM v/v.

Good decision. Spend the cash on the handling, something that will actually make the car quicker, safer and more satisfying for a real driver, not some toy for impressing teenagers on street corners.

Hi John

If you have the Dual port BOV, it should of come with a blanking plate, new cap heads, loctite and hex key to remove the VTA trumpet and replace it with the blanking plate. This will turn your dual port BOV into a totally recircultaing one without noise.

cheers, Andy

No, all your doing is taking the air previously vented to atmosphere and putting it into the induction pipe before the turbo. (just like standard, the way its supposed to work) I'll assume you have an induction kit since you have a front mount? you will still get some noise with it being recalculated but its nothing like the VTA sound.

Rob beat me too it :-)

No, it wont stall the turbo and cause more lag. By recirculating i mean it will divert the excess air back into the intake of the turbo, just like standard. The only difference know compaired to your OE BOV is the turbosmart one will not break due to a ripped diaphram as its a piston type and it will recirculate significantly more air for the same duration of lift, if your running a modified engine.

I have APS tmic, y pipe & bov im running 370hp ive had no problems at all, infact better responce in gear changes. the APS only vents to air about 20% i would not have gone for a VTA due to the reports ive read. so very happy with the APS....

URBAN MYTH DEBUNK....lacking a BOV (of any kind) does not 'stall the turbo' it puts the compressor into 'surge' where the airflow over the blades seperates off the backs of the blades (aka stalls like an aircraft wing) the turbo doesn't magically stop rotating!

Simon

Quite right. If it stopped the turbine wheel in its tracks, I don't think many turbos would last long!

I think the general consensus is that changing BOVs usualy more hassle than its worth and there are most certainly MUCH better things you can spend your money on to improve the car.

Aren't Halfords now doing an offer on them where you get a choice of a free pair of tracky bottoms, some white socks, a beige tartan baseball cap, a stripy t-shirt or a voucher for your hair cutting in the crew-cut at a local barbers
