Default ECU's

Have a 1993 WRX and have just met a friend at work who happens to be a certified mechanic AND a Subaru Junkie. He tells me that if I can get a new standalone for my scoob, then he has absolutely no problem helping me tune it up some. Problem is I can't afford much. Was wondering if anyone knows of chip that I can use in my vehicle that won't cost an arm and a leg. Basically something that just allows me to re-map my car when I feel like it, or just to make it much easier to map i suppose.

usual early options are:
ESL board on std ECU
Simtek
PowerFC
then there's the more exotic stuff like pectel, autronic, motec etc

www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk has the most popular options on his website.

The cheapest option i think is the Enduring Solutions Limited remappable daughter board
