Default re: Steering Rack 'play'

Hi

My Subaru Version 5 Type R has some ‘play’ in the Steering Rack and also when the car is on full lock a loud clonk can be heard from the front of the car.

I have fitted new lower ball joints and steering arms.

This has helped a lot but there is still some ‘play’ L

What are my options please?

Is there a repair kit of some sort?

Thanks and regards,

Hey mate,

Did you replace the track rod ends as well? The boots on mine had perished causing the grease to leak and the ball joints dried up causing clonking like you describe. Would have suggested steering arms and lower joints but you have already done these.

My front wishbone inner bushes were also shot causing a creeking noise under load, I'm sure you can also replace the steering rack bushes and brackets with uprated Whiteline units or stock if you want stock comfort.

Let us know how you get on nothing worse than a clonking car!!
