Default Water leak - help

Hi all,

During the nasty weather we had yesterday, I noticed a patch of water starting to form in the passenger footwell. It was coming from behind the glovebox. This is a 94 WRX by the way.

I took apart the black plastic cowelling below the windscreen (cover outside the car) to take a look under there and couldn't see any build up of water, but did notice that one of the popper clasps that holds it in was broken and the seal wasn't very good as a result. Also checked the window seal and that seemed good.

I decided to take the glovebox out and noticed that the drip was coming from the foam around the fan assembly. I removed the fan and felt around inside the hole to find the foam material inside was sodden wet.

I have re-fitted the cowelling with new clips, and replaced the fan, but has anyone had this happen to them before. Is it possibly coming from elsewhere?

Bit concerned as it didn't take long for the carpet to get soaked!

Has the windscreen ever been replaced on your car?

same thing happened to me & a new screen sorted the problem. Basically, mine was fitted by a bunch of muppets..

get it done on your insurance for £60 if you are fully comp - job done

Smell the water to check if it's coolant or not.

Don't think it has, well at least I wasn't told as much when I asked about it. The seal around the actual screen seemed ok, but then I could have missed something being as it was raining!!

Going to try hosing it down later to see if any more water comes through! Thanks for the tip.

mine never seemed to leak when I put a hose on it & you won't beable to tell from the plastic seal on the outside, that is just trim. The acual screen i bonded to the chassis & its the bonding that lets the water in.

as above "taste" the water - if it tastes sweet then its antifreeze. I seriously doubt it is AF as the symtoms & locations of the leak is exactly the same as my car.

Does your car have Air Con??

If so then you could find that the drain hose from the from the evaporator (next to the blower motor) has either come adrift or is blocked.
