AIR CON? CAN IT BE PUT IN A NON AIR CON CAR?
just wondering if i could put air con in my 1999 uk turbo which has obviously not got air con, just need to know if you can, is it easy and is it expensive any comments appreciated thanks
I did my MY99 with plenty of help from silver sonic (SN User). You have to make sure that the kit you get is from the same year as your own car as there are a number of differences between them. I got my bits from API. I seriously recommend that all the bits you get are from the same car to save on headaches - It would also be advisible to rescue all the nuts/bolts. Also, if your car is a uk - make sure the bits you get are uk bits as JDM cars are also different.
The total it cost me to fit and Gas was £250. If you are willing to get your hands dirty - the job is more fiddly than difficult

i took a look at a friends air con today and it does look quite complicated. i got another question though exactly what parts do i need obviously the compressor, radiater and matrix but what tubes and any thing else i would need also will my loom have the plugs for air con . cheers taylor
You will need the following:
Compressor + The bracket that holds the comp & alternator in place.
All the associated pipe work under the bonnet.
Drive belt & Tensioner assay.
Condenser (in front of the radiator)
The cooling fan bolted to the radiator on the drivers side. (this is only fitted to cars with air con)
The dryer bottle, which sits by the LHF strut top.
2x relays in the underbonnet fuse box
The evaporator & casing it sits in (behind the glove box)
Air con control panel
As for the wiring, it should all be in place but to check this, look at where the underbonnet harness plugs into the alternator, you should find an unused block connector taped to the harness. This is for your compressor, so if it's there the car is ready to accept air con.
I think that's all you need but if I have missed anything then I welcome anyone adding to the list.
