BOTTOM END
ok i'm confused with the different kind of block avalible for a classic turbo.
i take it the basic wrx turbo was fitted with a open deck block?
and the sti was a closed deck block?
or am i wrong?
and i believe that sti's have forged internals unlike a wrx?
basically i need to rebuild my engine in one of my scoobys and was thinking of rebuilding the bottem end with forged internals but if they come standard in the sti block would i not be best just buying a sti block?
or am i getting this totally wrong lol?

Early WRX came with open deck block.
STi V2 RA Closed Deck Block.
Some Jap Legacy's had Closed Deck Block.
EJ 22 (22B) were Closed Deck and are like rocking horse sh*t to find.
Some Early production Ver 3 STi's had Closed Deck.
Some early Ver 3 WRX came with bore squirters in a Open Deck Block.
STi Version 2+RA came with Forged Dog Bone Pistons.
STi Version 3 onwards have HF/1/2/3/4 Forged Pistons.
All STi's have normal rods and crank(except Version 9 Nitrided crank) but were hand selected at the factory.
It's hard to pin it down exactly as you dont know how many times the engine has been out/overhauled.
Better off stripping the engine to see what pistons you have in it and take it from there.
