Default Induction kits

Hi guys,
what is your opinion about the following induction kits?

Would you go with the Apexi induction kit Apexi Power Intake Subaru Impreza 96-00 Flat4online.co.uk Subaru Impreza Mitsubishi Evolution EVO Walbro Fuel Pumps Injectors Intercoolers
or
the Viper induction kit?
http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/

The car the systems will be used is a WRX MY99/00.

At the moment I have got the Viper cone installed, but it´s hard to feed it with fresh air, due to using the stock inlet...so the cone looks a bit backwards!

Please let me know you opinion!

My opinion is - unless you have a front mount i/c then and induction kit ain't required.

So the standard airbox would be okay with an uprated filter?
But which one is okay with the MY99/00 MAF?
Can the K&N filters be used without oil?
I heard bad stories about the Green filters, they sometimes shrink and let dirt pass the side!

The uprated STi panel filter has stainless steel mesh over and a rubber seal around the outside, so should not give any hassles.

This is what it looks like.

What sort of power are you running? Not sure at what level the panel filters start to become restrictive (but I would guess 400bhp or thereabouts) ... where is Harvey when you need him.

I have got a Garrett Hybrid turbo standard location in my car and a closed deck block with STI V6 heads and many other uprated parts, like 6 speeder and Power FC, AVCR... So looking for a target of 450bhp!

I want to keep the car as stock looking as possible, becuase of the police!
It´s even a pain that there is an open airfilter, that is illegal in Austria too!
I will try to build a "shield" out of the stock airbox, to make it as stealth looking as possible!
But I might not be too restricted with the STI V8 TMIC, hopefully.
Heared that even Andy F. runs a TMIC on one of his quartermile dragcars making over 400bhp!

as above, it´s a STI V8 TMIC!
Do you really think the stock airbox is good for that powerlevel?
How did it without a conefilter?
The Apexi intake and Viper intake are unoiled too, I´m pretty sure.

Phew!!

Agree with above, induction Kit not worth it unless you're going FMIC, especially if all it will be doing is sucking hot air from a dirty engine bay.

V8 intercooler is able to handle 400+bhp, yes. It's used on the Type 25.

MAF friendly filter might not be an issue for you if you get to that level though, as presumably you'd want to ditch the maf and use Simtek?

I´m going the Q45 MAF route, so it might not be an issue of course.
Might a K&N panelfilter be an option?

Simtek is no option due to living in Austria and nobody can map it here.
It´s even a pain to make the Apexi work perfect, but I was lucky and a helping hand from England offered his skills and hopefully we come to a perfect map in the near future!

So would the stock airbox be able to support enough air for 400bhp+?
