not sure if i am posting this in the right place but could anyone be honest and tell me wot a CDB is worth, seen alot of prices floating about which vary quiete alot, just wondered wot sort of ball park figure you should expect to pay for one of these as a bare casing and with crank and rods etc?

A brand new 2.0l CDB will cost about £1150 ... second hand I am not sure, but in good condition I would guess aroud £500.

The EJ22T (2.2l) CDB is not made any more. Being the toughest of the subaru blocks and very sought after, there is still a healthy premium on these blocks second hand, so expect to pay £800 to £1100.

Here is a pick of a CDB

Roger Clark Motorsport

Here is a pick of a ODB (or semi-closed ... not 100% sure if those welds holding the cylinders make it a semi closed or not). Sure someone will clarify.

Roger Clark Motorsport - Shop View Large Image

You can see the extra metal supporting the top of the cylinder on the pick of the CDB, which gives a larger surface area for the gaskets to push against ... hence less chance of gasket failure and able to take more boost.

I bought one as a complete short block that had blown the head gasket for £250. I sold this same one, stripped down to its bare crankcase halves, with a spun liner for £200. Everything finds its true value on ebay in the end. £200 is a rough benchmark for a CDB I reckon. The CDB I am currently basing my build on, I actually bought for a lot less than £200 as a bare block. It had bottom end problems so the crank was scrap but the rest of the block was good.
