Thumbs down 1994 sti overheating......please help

hi. iv got a 1994 scooby sti. recently the car has started overheating. i am really confused by it and dont know what to do next. the temp gauge stays normal when the heating is on hot setting and blowing full. the cooland is hot in the pipe entering the radiator but cold coming out. the overflow/return pipe is hot. why is it cold coming out of the radiator when boiling going in and hot back to the resevoir. i have tried block testing, tested the thermostat, coolant flushed, removed and checked water pump and all are ok. can anyone please advise of any known faults or other things to check that could cause this. many thanks in advance, paul
