water spitting out
hi, i drove my 95 sti to work the other day and when i got there i noticed water under the car, the header tank had split, i have now fitted another one but when i fill it up and run it on tick over, it builds up a massive amount of pressure and spits all the water back out, is there a way to fill it up to get rid of the air lock, or is there a problem with it, cheers phil.

To remove the air squeeze the bottom radiator hose... with header tank cap removed AND whilst engine is off ! !
Then add more water, as required.
The question is what state is the coolant in ?
Is it more a case of a blown head gasket ?

It could do, depends if the gasket has gone between the cylinder and water way. I had this on my Porsche, oil was fine but water was constantly being pushed out of the header tank. The oil only gets contaminated if the cylinder bursts through the head gasket into the oil way. I think you should have a compression test done just to be on the safe side.
i have just done a compression test, and the left side is fine at 12, but the right side are both at 8, so the head gasket has gone but i thought there would be less pressure, also the water stopped spitting out with the spark plugs out, thanks for all the help on both threads, phil.
