Default Newbie question

Afternoon all -

I am a newbie to the Scooby world and this Forum. I have got a 1999 Classic Turbo 2000 which is totally standard. This is the way it is staying, however tempting!
Was just wondering what to look out for on my car really? Heard MAF's are not that good on these cars and was wondering what the symptoms would be if was a bit dodgy? Has standard airfilter and airbox.

Thanks for all help.

I changed the MAF on my MY00 Uk Turbo as soon as I had it - hesitant, not smooth when boosting.

Made a big difference, loads better but a main dealer part @ £83 (two years ago) for our age of car.

But surely you have to mod it a bit - at least do the de-tango on front!!

and then after that, some STi rears:

Sorry, couldn't resist - anyway enjoy your new scoob

Thanks your reply. Car not hesitant and boosts well. Idling fine and not hunting. Would Check engine light come on if prob with MAF? Car is due service soon. Enjoying the scooby so far!

Then your MAF sounds fine - its an expensive 'just in case' item to change, but some people do it on a regular basis.

Don't think CEL will come on if MAF prob no.

Ok thanks. Still learning about the car! Although when I braked first then clutch at a junction the other day the revs dropped a bit below sort of 500 rpm then went to normal. Was a split second. Car stationary idled fine. Maybe was me! Is MAF easy to do to change myself? Also if battery needs replacing at any point does the ecu have to learn it's settings again? Thanks.

MAF is easy to change you need a special screwdriver available from Halfords etc to remove it (can't remember what there called Torex or something similar). Its located after the air box towards the intake, its the electrical connection in the tube. As for changing the battery, if you change it in reasonable time then the learnt information will remain, if it takes more then it may start to learn all over again.

As Skooby53 says its an easy job - I am pretty useless with the spanners but it was straightforward. Need a Torx screwdriver bit - couple of quid.
