im currenty putting a new sti bottom end into my classic at re motorsport,iv been told i can get a bottom end for £1800,and for an extra couple of hundred i could get a closed deck....the question if have is what are the pro's and con's as im thinking of going for the closed option...im not after huge horsepower somewhere around the 400bhp mark in the future.

I've just bought an EJ25T short block (semi closed) brand new from Subaru Australia (Subaru are doing good deals here at the moment) for $2800 (£1340). The block includes pistons/rods etc but I'll be putting forged/coated pistons and billet rods along with 750cc injectors, polished + ported heads AVO 450s turbo, walbro fuel pump and ECUtek remap. This should be good for over 400 bhp at the crank (250kW atw). I was told that the semi-closed deck is fine for this power, if you're going over 500bhp you might want to go full closed.
