Default up pipe

Is it worth changing the up pipe on a classic.
What are the benefits?

I thought it was the new-age cars that had a cat in the up-pipe.... a classic should be o.k. ?

I may well be wrong tho'.

My standard up-pipe on my JDM MY98 blew a nice hole in the expansion joint, so I needed to replace mine.
I spent alot of researching about gains etc, and nothing came up conclusive for the classic in means of gains in power, spool etc...

On the new age, they have a cat in the up-pipe, so its an obvious upgrade, but us classic owners dont, so really, unless your going mega power, then my opinion is that they are only really needed if the standard one blows.

I fitted a stainless one with flexi joint, and its seems fine.
I never had my car on the rolling road before it was fitted, so I couldnt give a definate if they do anything.

Fitting wise, its not a bad job really, all I did was dropped the headers and a bit of a wiggle and loss of knuckle skin and it went in from underneath.
With a bit of a jiggle with turbo bolts and brackets, and all sorted.
does give a more hollow sound though, as I guess it flows better.

Ill get some pics of mine before and after fitting if you wanted too?

hope thats any help.

tt hijack so to fit it, you just dropped the headers that could reack the rest of the bolts from underneath?

remembering it looking really tight, is this how you did it, how it can be done?

The O/E up-pipe is a restriction once you start adding power. Choosing the right up-pipe to suit your turbo/power aspirations is critical to the future performance of your car and the ease with which it spools.
