Default ecu problems

have been told i need a new ecu 4 my98sti have been told it i cant have it remaped. whats the best ecu 2 go 4 within a sensible price range.

Apexi PowerFC or SimTek both very good value for money

Simtek for about £900-£1000
APexi for about £750

Im curious, what fault do you have to lead you to the ECU? Basically my farts about below 3 grand and slow boy racer.com (very helpful thanks guys) have suggested this sounds like the cause and suggested the Apexia as can adjust fueling at lower revs.

I was also told cant remap, so...

1. What was your fault?
2. If we dont uprate to the expensive ecu's can we simply pull one from another car the same age and model?
3. Alternatives? not being tight but £800 is quite a bit.

you sure the 98 can't be mapped? thought it was the 96's that couldn't?

93~96 OE ecu can be remapped, 97~98 coming soon
