Default ECU CHECK

HI can i do any damage doing the ecu check and reset on a 96 wrx auto wagon

cheers
someone said that because its an auto when i reset the ecu it will stall when i come to a stop for the first few times but im not sure if he was chatting boll**s

When doing a reset is it best to do it cold or when the engine is warm ?
