We have been discussing water spray in a thread in Drivetrain and certainly I looked at this controller with interest, but Trout says a simple boost switch does do the job.

I had one - works on temperature differential and injector duty cycle.

Will use a lot less water than just a boost pressure switch.

The unit itself is robust but the sensors were a bit flimsy - but it does do the job.

You could use a boost pressure switch along with a temp controller (I have one of These AKO14721 units which you could use in conjunction with a boost switch which would work better IMHO.

Thanks

That thermostat...how much is it?

Looks very interesting, I'm looking for a suitable way to monitor inlet temps (after the IC), and if it could supply a +12 VDC feed at a given tempvalue, an "intelligent" spray system would be really easily sorted.

Jerry,

Prices are here: http://www.protherm.demon.co.uk/page2.html - about £60.00 in total.

It has two 8 Amp relays which are activated seperately when the temperature hits two certain points so you could control two devices with the IAT as the trigger.

You could activate a fan at 30 degrees C and water spray at 40 degrees C, for example.

Had mine about eight months with no problems.

Thanks

Ure a star Gavin!

One more Q...how did you attach the temp probe to the inlet....and does the £60 include the probe?

Cheers

Jerry,

The £60 included the probe - I've got one which is OK to 200 degrees C which I hope the intake temperature never reaches...

Vince (the guy who owns Protherm) is very good and can supply whatever probes you want and seems happy to answer questions.

The probe I have is cased in a 4mm metal cylinder and slipped it between the top mount IC and throttle. There is probably a better way of doing it - I suppose you could tap it off of the intake manifold but I haven't tried it....

Thanks

Gavin

A 4 mm diameter probe in the hose between the IC and the throttle...umm...how on earth did U get it to seal properly?

Cheers btw!

I'm going to send that fella an order...

Why not just use something like an SPA gauge - shows both boost and charge temp, and has switching capabilities on both.
So you could have the spray coming on at whatever boost you choose, but only if the charge temp is over your chosen level?

I'm halfway through setting this up on mine.

Anyone found a source for good spray nozzles?

Sorry if this has been suggested before...........

Jerry,

I used a longer bit of oversized Samco hose (80mm).

The other issue is radiated heat from the IC and throttle body (as the probe touches both) so it probably overreads slightly....

As I said, there is likely to be a better way.....

Thanks

Gavin
