done a search... a couple use this 5w-50 halfords oil and say its fine, some say 50 is too thick most i can gather use 5w-40 fully synth.. do castrol do one?

castrol only seem to do in the edge sport range

10w-60
0w-40

loads say 0w is too low so staying away from that as thats what previosly used...

use to use 10w-60 in my old evo. would this be ok? or the halfords 5w-50?

Help lol

is 10w40 the common rating people use (I am changing my oil at the weekend with some TMC branded 10w40 semi-synth oil).

The larger number refers to viscosity at higher temperatures, so 60 is "better" than 50 but if most use 40, then it's un-likely to matter.
Mobil 1 for me...

DunxC

P.S. how's the re-build going young 'un ?

0W40 means the viscosity of a straigh 0 at Zero Degrees and the viscosity of a 40 oil at 100 degrees.

so once the oil is up to operating temp, a 0W or a 5W or a 10W makes no difference - it is a matter of what the big number is. I recommend a 40 on a newer engine and a 50 on an older engine, fully synthetic ester oil. I have an oil cooler and stationary my temp creeps up to 90 but on the move it is seldom above 70-80.

Their track day oil only costs £24:74 (down from £34:99) with a trade card. I doubt that its 100% pao base stock, but then, when analysed with a gas chromatograph, Mobil1 isnt either (!).....
