Default Intake temps and the 1/4 mile....

Just wondering does anybody have a method for keeping intake temps down in the que for the 1/4 mile strip? does anybody even take any notice?
I noticed my intake temp is around 5 dgrees above ambient when pootling around and goes up to around ten above after some hard driving, so i guess the standard top mount is doing its job quite well. But after sitting in traffic the temps soar, cool down quick enough once rolling, but there is no time to cool em between the que and racing at somewhere like pod.

water spray or CO2. I sometimes push my car whilst waiting in the queue, bonnet up.

careful using water to cool it down - track marshalls are quite struct on this as it puts water on the track which they have to spend time cleaning up.

I used to always used to shut down the engine as soon as I'd done the run, pushed the car along with the bonnet up while waiting to stage, then just fire it up (bonnet up still) when I was 4 or 5 cars from the front, just to get water and oil back up to temp but keeping the engine bay cool(ish!). Drop the bonnet a minute before staging and that's as much as you can do, unless you have a CO2 or nitrous spraybar that you can purge over the intercooler (or a CO2 fire extinguisher). But if you're going to that sort of trouble, you should be thinking about a front mount anyway.

^ as above....push the car in the queue and leave the bonnet up for as long as possible. I used to take icepacks with me too. At the end a days racing you will feell like you been in battle with heatsoak!

Banny - yeah been on Migweb for 6 years or so, west mids regional Co-ordinator.

Pushing with the bonnet up seems about as much as we can do really then. I have the water sprayer but they don`t seem to like that at Shakspere!

What i do is wedge a piece of card inbetween the manual button so its on constant down the strip.

They don't like water on the track as it can cause accidents. So what ends up happening is the queues are held up while the water is cleaned up
