what do i need to beat a supra?
been out today in my02 wrx ppp pack running 261 bhp at the flywheel and about 250 lb/ft torque with my mate in his 95 jap spec auto supra standard tune (killed him on anything apart from the straights but he was pulling away on the straights) so what changes do i need to make to beat him in a straight line?
i was looking at scoobyclinics performance packs and thought that would probably be enough, but is there a cheaper way as money is a bit tight at the mo, also i dont really want a louder exhaust than the prodrive one i have at the minute if possible?
any ideas? thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

if its a turbo just forget about it he is allways going to have the edge in a straight line.even if you did mod the hell out of yours a few simple tweeks to his and he's off again.

Decat the U/P and D/P and have it mapped to get 290+. Leave the power alone then and concentrate on the handling and braking. Why must you be quicker ? The cars are different, with the heavy, powerful, RWD Supra obviously made for straighter roads and your agile Scoob awesome in the twisties. Why can't people just appreciate each cars abilities and enjoy driving for the pleasure it is ?

supra tt's in a straight line are awesome!, no point trying to beat your mate in that regard, if you really have to beat him you need to get a supra!

Ok, lets adds some stats to the argument:
Supra Twin Turbo, Uk, which, according to the books is more powerful than the import... Pity Subaru didn't follow Toyotas example
It has 326bhp weighs 1549 which equates to a power to weight ratio of 213bhp tonne.
WRX PPP has 261bhp, weighs 1395, which equates to 190 bhp per tonne
To equal it you'll need 300bhp which would give you 218bhp per tonne.
To beat it cleanly, I'd suggest 330bhp which would give you 340 bhp per tonne
OR
You can do what Bob and I have done, get a lighter classic mod it to circa 350 which gives you a fullsome 287 bhp per tonne .... and Supras will trouble you no-more

modded skyline gtr perhaps but that would also be a fight supras are the best ŁforŁ BHP.at the end of the day no other car sounds as good as a subaru so we all win at least 1 battle......

well you maybe right but anyway........i think the first post was more about the supra's straight line stats.so you recon a wrx would take a supra tt on a good long straight piece of road?

apparantly pretty damn accurate too, you need to look at the 60-100 time for "pulling-awayness", so you need, just to keep about the same.

Can I just ask why are you considering blowing money on a car (which you will never get back) if money is tight?

As long as you can keep close to it on the straights you'll have the upper hand on it in the corners even if you keep your's the way it is now. Maybe do a few subtle mod's on it that'll give you a couple more BHP and you'll be fine.
Even you've said you can take him on the corners so just keep doing what your doing but like I say add a couple of subtle mod's to add that couple of BHP that your gonna need. Don't go crazy cos' as was said above you'll see something faster that you wanna take on and you'll not be able to as your Impreza will start pulling it'self apart off the line.

subaru is a rally car made for going fast around corners on different surfaces, asmuch as we want them to beat every car ever made they carn't.
how ever 18g turbo can be had for not much money but would be best in a RA classic running around 400bhp, and there is a video of this setup handing a new m6 its **** in a straight line, albeit on the street!
2ND OPTION get a skyline these come top all day at modified events followed by supras
3rd option
buy envys new 1100 bhp supra with 100,000 gbp worth of mods
hope it helps

cheers for all the replys, i have been thinking of more power for the scoob anyway, its straightline acceleration just doesn't feel that quick, being faster than my mate would just be a nice bonus , i recently drove a an eagle eye sti type uk o a trackday and that pulled much better than my car, and i used to have an evo 1 running about 300bhp and same torque so thats the kind of accelaration i am looking for, dont get me wrong the scooby is fantastic just feels like it could do with a bit more grunt.

the TD04 you have on your car is the most weedy turbo used on any model impreza. Is was fairly weedy in a 1235kg car let alone a bug/blob.
That said, you should also learn how to drive your current spec to the best it can - know where it makes power and when/how to shift for optimum speed.
Changing the turbo for something better would be a good basis for planning your next stage of mods.
