Hi all! Im starting to get the tuning bug(again!) and wanted to know how far i can go before i need to change the ecu for an Apexi/ESL ect.
I have the early Z5 ecu on my 95RA, which i've fitted a polar performance chip. Im running a cat back stainless system, about to buy a de cat downpipe.
At this point i'll be boosting more than standard(16 -18psi), and worried about fuel starvation. I was thinking of fitting a set of yellow 440cc injectors.
Am i asking for trouble as i can't map the mods? I can't spend the money yet on a ESL or apexi.
Your oppinions/experiences would be great!
Thanks,Mit

My spec is the same as yours bar a modified cold air feed to the air box with a simota panel filter. With the chip i am getting 1.1 bar but still have the factory downpipe too (thinking of fitting a decat one some time soon)
I would assume after fitting the downpipe it shouldn't boost more than 1.1 bar as the generic map on the chip has a boost limit of 1.1 bar, so it shouldn't go over it and because of that there should be no increase in fuelling.
Just a guess some of the experts should answer your question better than i can

I have the same set-up too: PP non-mappable chip, OEM cat d/p, 3" system, Green panel filter; PFR6B plugs.
I think Scott T and JGM have implied that the the above mods (plus decat d/p) are fine for that chip at 1.1bar
.
In any case, if/when you do get an Apexi/ESL (I'm thinking of doing the same!), the max. target boost the mapper would be able set is 1.2bar, as the std MAP sensor is rated at that boost level. If you wanted more boost, you'd have to change the MAP for a 1997MY>on 1.8bar one, or a Delco 3bar one...

440's would need a remap as you will be overfuelling when you come on boost / go above 3000rpm.
if you go to the trouble of fitting 440's then fit a later map sensor and get it live mapped upto around 1.3/1.35bar.
440's are not required for 1.1bar.
Was having the same conversation last night via email with a guy in Yeovil. Was convinced he didn't need a remap with 440's. and a Z4.
I think he had convinced himself as he couldn't afford a live map
