Default CEL wont clear

CEL light came on so i hand a look under the bonnet and discovered the vacuum line to the BOV had split but the CEL light wont clear it is staying on, is there a reason for this, i have been playing with the car a bit and set the CEL light of a few time when playing with the intake and recirc pipes causing a few vacuum leaks but deff none now, is there something with the ecu that cause it to hold the fault light after it has clocked the same fault so many times ??? its a newage blobeye.

thanks for any info

if a classic shape you can reset the ecu.. info here which will clear the error code.. also you can check which one it is.. if it won't clear then the error is still there etc..

For a newage some CEL's remain unless cleared from the ECU. They are stored in EPROM memory so removing the battery does not help.

Other CEL's clear after about 5 starts when the ECU thinks the problem has gone away.

You need someone to read the codes and clear / reset the ECU.... my local friendly scooby dealer here in Carlise would do this for free in quiet periods but most charge.
