Checking the Oil???
Sorry for being thick but my Type R is my first Scooby.
When checking the oil, should it be done with the engine off or with it running?

Hi mate.
For a proper reading, make sure car's parked on level ground, leave car overnight, then check level next day before running engine.
You may need to dip the dipstick 3 or 4 times (wipe off oil between each dip!) to get an accurate idea of where the oil level is. The bottom hole is the minimum level, the top hole is maximum (about a litre's worth of oil separates these two marks).
N.B. Don't confuse the semi-circular cut-out of the side of the dipstick, and above the top hole, as being the max. level indicator!
