Default Apexi Power FC ecu

I have just bought a second hand Apexi Power FC ecu for a UK MY98 turbo, the seller has mentioned that there were two hand held controllers brought out for this model, and has advised me to disconnect my battery, take out my existing ecu, plug in the Apexi unit, reconnect the battery, and turn the ignition on to see whether the hand controller powers up.Now obviously i would not try and turn the engine over, but my question is,would this proceedure enable my current ecu useless,as i read a post on S/Net where this has happened, any advice would be appreciated !!!!!

No it won't , you can swap your Apexi and standard ecu in and out as many times as you like..
What you will have to do is switch the CAM and CRANK sensor wires over as they were configured differently on JDM and UK cars....

As above really. Just to add that I swopped my ECU over without disconnecting the battery. Its not good practice but its never hurt it.

I cant see why plugging in the wrong had controller would make any difference to be honest. I would still wait for JGM or AndyF to comment as they have probably done this and I haven't.

Also, in case you were thinking about starting the car, the MAF and INJ's will probably need rescaling.

The ECU will be expecting the larger maf and inj's fitted to JDM models of that year.

the wrong commander will just display APEXI on the screen, the correct one will go into the menu settings like this

the cam and the crank sensor are sensors bolted to the engine..

on the 97~00 you need to swap them to fit an Apexi to a uk car, on the 97/98 you need to move the fuel pump pin too.

but best left to be altered at mapping time as there are differences on the uk cars and need the map set up for the different car if secondhand etc
