Question CEL Warning light, 2001 bug!

Evenin all....

Just read a couple threads about engine lights coming on, aparently early newage's comon for it and light goes off after 5 engine starts... will try this tomorrow.

Thing is this evening, driving on a dual carrageway, at a steady 60mph, the light came on for no reason, engine note never changed, and car drives no different to normal, still boosts well etc just strange how it came on( first time its seen the snow lol) have turned car off twice since and still on, ( will try the 5 on off thing tomorrrow)

any ideas people? thought id check on here before get it plugged in

just been looking in my owners manual, and says if stays on its emission problem, only engine fault if flashes... needs to be turned off tho or fault memory read for piece of mind

any help apreciated, cheers

Often a faulty Lambda or EGT sensor. Anywhere with diagnostic equipment will be able to confirm. Not too expensive but can be tricky to change as they are often seized into the exhaust and can be in quite inaccessible places.

Quite a few possibles - spark plugs (if modded), coilpack, neutral position switch, lambda, etc.

Best get it plugged in.

Hi James,
Under light load at a steady speed the lambda tries to run as clean as possible, the ecu reads an out of range value due to someone removing one of the cats.
I fitted a sports cat and was warned it would do this, so just ignored it !
(For two years !)
Had it checked once under warranty just to be sure, then it came back on again a short while later.
HTH

DunxC

P.S. If you cane it everywhere it won't come on, sorry officer....

You have some options to sort this code,
1, remap and the mapper can take it off (cel light)
2, manual cell fix fits into the rear sensor, the into the exhaust sorts out the light not coming on,
3, mechanical cel fix which is wires fitted to the rear sensor to eliminate the cel..

CEL for the decat is P0420

Mechanical CEL fixes not always 100%, I'd get it remapped and the mapper will permanently erase the CEL for you

Also will get a lot more from your TD04 than when it left the factory

James

I went from my TD04 to a front entry TD05

I must admit this was the best bugeye mod I ever did I could tool around doing whatever I wanted without fear of smashing anything expensive like the gearbox or clutch

Just note that the mapper actually de-tuned the car slightly to avoid disaster as the TD05 is a tough critter and in the end it shagged my clutch (instead of the gearbox) LOL

What other mods have you gone for....sti pink injectors, fuel pump etc ??

Cheers

cool, cant wait

full s/s system on, decats, walbro, hks filter, td05 and remap will be the spec, been told to expect 300bhp and equal torque so thatll do me on std injectors too which is good, tho if want go over 320bhp then injectors need changing

Class

300 BHP on the cards then

I'd look out for a STi intercooler and a FPR to raise the pressure about half a bar and .........

Hi James £200 for a regulator will extend your injectors output enough to reach 320 BHP..... it's the route I'm taking on mine. For now ! LOL
