Default prodrive kit for 99 classic

Does the fuel pump have to be uprated for the prodrive kit on the 99 classic shape? Also do the keys have to be matched to the ppp ecu upgrade by subaru?

Cheers. Jon.

Keys are not matched to the ecu on my99's... and as far as i know, the fuel pump was NOT part of the ppp.......
Are you buying the bits gradually...?? or actually getting it done by Subaru... which given the remap aoptions these days wuldn't be the best value for money option!

i want to buy a full ppp kit ie. downpipe, rear silencer, silicone hose, uprated ecu (and I thought the fuel pump). Gonna buy it all at once, second hand, and I'm told it should just be a question of fitting the parts and I'll be ready to drive.

sorry, you're right it's a decat centre pipe not the downpipe. Did you notice a marked improvement in performance with the ppp?

99 being well out of warranty, a ppp upgrade would be the last choice to do

decat, walbro fuel pump, and a ekutek remap or stand alone ecu would be my choice....... and it was.

Rigga,

What was your choice? I only chose the PPP because it seems like safe power enhancement with good reports.

A proper remap with the correct support mods done by one of the pros on here will be at least as safe as a PPP

Not only as safe but much more effective per £ spent

I went apexi pfc, full decat, walbro pump, but also changed the turbo and went to a larger top mount from a later car..... there has been a lot of topics regarding the ppp option, from a new car point of view in my opinion it might be worthwhile for the warranty that comes with it.... if its not in warranty then i would not go down that route,as said there are plenty of guys that can offer a remap that would be more specific to your cars condition than a generic prodrive map thats desighned to be suitable for many differing cars....

Wait for mike wood to disagree again........

The PP will need coding to the transponder unit on a 99MY (not the key per se as I understand it).

If the PPP is the 'right price' then its a good way to get circa 240bhp (as RB5) from a UK car, if its more expensive (and budget in the coding at either a dealer or a specialist with the right kit) than similar bits used plus a remap, then it makes no sense.

The decat centre pipe looks very like the STi centre I have on mine, that cost me £25, you can get the silicon Y-pipe or similarily efficient STI 'hard pipe' bits used off ebay for about £20, a good backbox (STi is better than stock UK but looks standard cost me £25), and the remap is dearest (current GB £500) - total cost about £600-700 for about 260-270bhp - however adding in more bits like a decat downpipe (not strictly legal of course) for £100 adding an extra 20bhp could swing the balance for you.

If you can get the PPP, fit it and pay a total of less than £400 its probably reasonable value!

About 18 months ago I did this very thing. I have a MY00 Classic. I got the ECU, backbox, decat centre section (magnex not PPP), intercooler pipe and Green panel filter for £330 all in, from different sourses. Then it was just plug and play. Nothing needs done with fuel pumps, keys or transponders.

Happily also the quoted figure of 237bhp was a little pesamistic, my car has 252bhp running on ESSO Supreme.

If you take your time there are bargains to be had.

I don't really have a set budget in mind I just wanted a subtle performance enhancement for the right price but mainly wanted the PPP route due to the quieter exhaust backbox. 240 -250 bhp would be perfect for me.

Is the sti backbox louder than the ppp one?

Thanks for the advice on price, I now know how much to spend.

get your self a second hand zorst 350
255 pump 80
vf 30 or vf 35 350
ported headers 150 exchange
sti 8 top mount 200
remap 400-650

then you have 320- 330 bhp

the list goes on enjoy your spending
