Default CLEANING THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE HOW??

been looking for answers of why my 95 import turbo is reving at 2k revs on starting it up for a couple of mins. my idea is that the icv needs cleaning. has any1 done this on one and cured it. if so how? what other ideas could it be? dan

Er, this is normal, I think... if it's happening from a stone cold engine e.g. left from overnight.

It's the ECU telling the injectors to run rich to aid starting a cold engine (choke in old money). Mine idles from anything between circa 1,500-2,000 rpm on cold startup, from memory.

After the engine has settled at the fast idle, I very lightly and sharply blip the throttle (i.e. a quick 'tapping' motion and hardly pushing down on the throttle pedal), and the revs always fall to around 1,100rpm or less, then quickly settle to the normal idle speed of c.750 rpm.

depending how cold it is mine revs between 1800-2000 after first start up soon settles down once throttle has been pressed a couple of times.
