Default Possible valve damage?

Guys,

Made a big **** up on my way into work earlier. As I was coming up to a round about I was in 6th gear. I started braking and put her into 5th and still braking went to put her in 4th.........then all of a sudden it revved like hell and the buzzer was going off for a gear change (STi 2002).

I didn't put it in 4th........I some how put the bloody thing in 2nd!!!! I was doing approx (not 100% sure though) between 45-55mph and all the weight transfer went in via the change down bring me to around 25-30mph!

My work is only under a mile away from the round about off junction 14 of the M25 and haven't been out to my car to test its ok.

Now my question is. I know the engines can take high revs etc and to be fair I don't push the car for what it has at the best of times. However I am a little worried I may have bent something inside by my **** up.
Is there any signs to listen for whilst on tick over of pulling away if I have damaged something. Maybe an oil leak or a knocking noise etc?

Maybe I am a "big girls blouse" . But I am gutted as I don't make **** ups like this.

Cheers
Steve

I reckon It'll be fine. Sure, at 55 in 2nd you are pulling fairly high revs, around 7k I would think (without checking the actual ratio) but the valves won't bounce till way past that, so they should be ok. As all the forces are reversed on the overun and considering the high revs, it's not something to do very often!
I remember getting 3rd instead of 5th when changing up a few times on my 6spd - Whoops!

Hey John,

Cheers buddy for the reply. Your right nothing seems to be damaged.

I was worried as there was alot of load going through the transmission at the time.

As for the 3rd rather than 5th..........I've done that too. But I put it down to the hand cream at the time.
