Default Aircon removal affecting alternator belt

Happy new year people,

My aircon wasnt working and I wouldnt use it anyway so I took it all out. However now its removed the alternator belt is slipping. I have tightened it up as far as it will go. The belt is also only about 6 months so pretty sure it doesnt need replacing.

The Aircon pump rests against the alternator, now its removed the alternator seems to have lost some of its stability possibly causing the occasional slipping. Did anyone else have this issue when removing and how did they resolve it?

I really dont want to put it back in!

Are these belts not specific to the car they are made for?

Yes, until you start removing things!

They are standard belts bought in by the car manufacturer. Different lengths are available.
I would look at what you've changed as on my car (MY2000), the two belts operate independantly and the removal of one doesn't affect the other. It sounds like your arrangement is different and you may have affected the altenator alignment. You need to find out what is wrong and solve the problem not the symptom.

The removal of the aircon belt is not the problem as that has been off for months without any problems. However its when I removed the aircon pump the problem started.

Does the alternator bolt to the aircon compressor in order to secure it?

Therefore by removing the aircon you would have made a new mount?

Is this not the reason for the belt not fitting?
