Default weird question

ok, we need these bits for a friends 04 sti here in greece but we don't know what they are called in english.
you get 4 of them, they sit on top of the spark plugs, cylinder shaped in black colour. 3 wires come out of it with a plug at the end. from what my friend explained to me they do something in the ignition system. can you tell what it is? it is not the ignition leads i am talking about. each one is a little smaller than a red bull can.
thanx in advance
