Default FMIC without cutting? Not Lateral IC

Hoping somebody can point me int he right direction pleeeeeeeease o knowledgeable ones.

Is it possible to make up IC piping without cutting into the body? (I'm not using a Lateral Performance intercooler)

I'm going Front Mount, but am reluctant to cut into the body as i really am not fond of the cone air filter and i also don't like the idea of cutting. The throttle body will NOT be reversed, so it will stay in standard position.

I have an STi 6 so the standard piping from air filter goes in under the intake manifold and toward the turbo. IF necessary, I can change the angle of the turbo and thus also change the way the pipes flow to the turbo.

I was wondering about how else the IC piping can be made up to avoid cutting into the body. The piping from IC into the throttle body is fine. I'm worried about the piping from the compressor wheel to the IC. Is it possible to send it down underneath the car and coming back to the IC?

Anybody else have any experience with doing something like this?

It seems you're tieing your hand behind your back before you do the job. Instead of asking for the impossible, why not do the job in the best manner that meets your requirements. An inner wing induction kit would allow an pipe to get to the intercooler while still providing cold air, and you can use the filter of your choice. If you don't want to cut the bumper, then you're stuck with the Lateral kit or the pace kit (yuk).

Let us know what is it exactly that you want to acheive, and then you might get some suggestion you haven't thought of, and broaden the scope of your project.

the car is a GC8 chassis ie classic.

well, i want to install a front mount intercooler and i was reluctant to cut into the front wing, but if there is no other way then so be it.

I just wanted to find out if anybody had done it differently as all the pics i can find on scoobynet show the piping through the wing. I have already bought the intercooler and before going and doing the whole job stripping down the front end i was wondering if there was an easier way.

I DON'T want a pace or lateral.

The car is a STi v6 4-door. Fitting on a Garret t04e turbo, with Perfect Power XMS management system. Blitz NUR exhaust, decat. Water-methanol injection.

Nearly all the intercoolers require bodywork modifications with the exception of the two that Paul has mentioned, the Lateral one (excellent bit of kit) and the Pace one (a bit pants).

So if your discarding them, then your limited to attacking your bodywork.

Allright then i guess i have to be cutting into the bodywork. And now to get a decent cone filter. I believe APEXI and Trust are the only safe ones, as the oil based filters cause big time problems.

Will start up a new thread with my build spec.

How much of an issue is it to reverse the throttle body and relocate the alternator?

or you could go down the line of a pace front mount intercooler, no body work to cut out at all. the only trouble with a pace is the omp radiator will not fit you would have to buy a alloy one but pace sell them as well.

I Have an Apexi FMIC on my 93 RA.

I run a Blitz Induction Kit, but the pipework that came with the Apexi fitted perfectly without any body Modifications.

when you say cutting into the body.. do you mean bumper or metal?
only the lateral and the pace don't need the bumper cutting.

not all the intercooler other kits require metal cutting.. and then it is only a small section of the inner wing..

Agreed Lateral is very good.

Did i ever mention anything was wrong with the Lateral? I just said that i'm not using it... as i already have another intercooler that is perfectly sized for the GC8 front.

i'm talking about cutting the hole into the inner wing.

I'm wanting to know if there is another way to get the piping from the turbo to the intercooler without having to cut into the wing. I've seen one person do it by sending the piping from the turbo UNDERNEATH the car and to the IC.

No thanks mate. From what i've heard about Pace it seems that the majority of Scooby owners consider the units to be a load of $H1T. I came across a thread on here where even the guy whose car was used during development of the intercooler had stated that he wouldn't use it again on his. car.

Nothing to do with that. I already have the intercooler. Not prepared to bring in a Lateral FMIC all the way down to Southern Africa as i don't have the time to wait.

okay.. we have been answering a different question..

yes.. depending on the core you are using.. come out of the intercooler.. under the front cross member and up between the radiator and the engine.. then up and bend towards the bulkhead and run it to where ever you need it etc.. works well with an APS core but not sure about others without looking etc..
