Default Another 2.5 conversion .. help please

Hey,

Currently got a 3 door 98 impreza.
Engne caught fire and seems to have done serious damage so were looking to re-build and put in the EJ257 2.5 STI Block.

Now what do i need to know?
Apologies because i know this question must get asked hundreds of times but not really had a great deal of luck with the search so if someone could tell us what we need to know, what we need to get what needs to be changed .. rough costs it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

To do this conversion (I have spent ages asking/reading Q&A on the subject) you really need one place to buy the parts needed so it will all work.

There are several good places to go to who actually understand:
Welcome to the API website
www.zenperformance.com
Lateral Performance

You will need:

Short block assembly: New £1500
Gasket set: £300 iirc
Modine for the oil filter: £100ish
Possibly larger injectors/turbo: £800 second hand
Fresh clutch: Good one needed, £350

Repair parts to your existing engine. Best think of £250 for oils etc etc that are inevitable.

ring up one of the tuners that specialise in engine building and ask whats involved and the costs - it will be much easier.

This is often not a straightfoward job (I have one). Despite their obvious similarities, there are dozens of different spec Scoobs out there, and yours is an import - bound to have some odd-ball bits. I would guess you'll also need all new wiring and lots of other fire-damaged parts.

All of which leads me to endorse the suggestions that you contact a professional operation that knows what's what. I have used and can recommend all the companies that Graham (911) suggests, but for your particular needs, API is the best place.

API has lots of expereince, a fine reputation, and a whole warehouse full of used parts at sensible prices. You'd be mad not to talk it through with them first.

Good luck,

Richard.

PS BTW, I love my 2.5l. So much torque it is effortlessly quick
