evening everyone just thought i would say hi this is my first post and i think i have big trouble with my wrx import 96 with the ht leads engine. i have noticed that when i touch the throttle just slightly i can hear a knocking slapping i think, i have an idea what it is, it is worse when it is cold but you can still hear it when it is warm. when you rev it past 2000revs it goes, sorry to be vague does anyone have any ideas.

Could be either piston slap which is very common and not engine life threatening, or it could be that you've spun a bearing, which means an engine rebuild. :sad: A knackered bearing sounds like a bag of bolts flying around in your engine. Piston slap is more of a consistant thumping/knocking noise.
Can't really tell without listening.

 

Tappets??

 

cambelt tensioner or idler bearings going possibly.

Try and get a stethascope to listen to the block to try and narrow down where the noise is coming from.
