Default Sti V WRX v Legacy TT base engine differences

I've been offered a blown engine from a Regacy Twin turbo very cheap, and am trying to understand if the base engine is more like a WRX or an STi (forged pistons, block type, solid or hydraulic cam followers etc etc) anyone got any tips if its worth the bother? Plan is too build a 'stronger' engine for mine (Forester s-turbo) to drop in at a later date.

UK Legacy Forums (Powered by Invision Power Board) you'll get all your info there .

As far as iam aware, its a WRX engine, nothing's forged in there and its open deck.

Thanks serega, I thought it would be open deck as at the same year the STi was anyway, didn't think it would be solid lifter, but I would have had it for forged pistons!
