My MY00 Turbo made a very small thump on the way home yesterday and has since (or I'm imagining it) started making a slight but steady tapping/ticking noise at anything over 20mph. Hard to tell but seems to be coming more from the rear/underside Sounds fine when ticking over or revving when stationary. Any thoughts? I thought I'd perhaps run over something and it had got caught but I can't see anything.

It's done 20,700. Reckon it's worth booking it in early for the 22,500 service. Any negative implications in doing this?

Question

havent picked up a nail or screw in a tyre have you? worth checkin, as the thump couldve been in puncturing the tyre, then the head of the nail/screw would tap on the road each time the wheel revolves.
just a thought!

You may have knocked a heatshield out. I had my clutch replaced and after that started to get a tapping sound, which I could here at slow speeds...should go away once warmed up. Alternatively check for Woodpeckers...turbos are nice places in the winter

Wouldn't go for that service before 21500 (unless the time period has expired : 18months etc.) - dealer said 1000 miles either side when I asked him once (warranty issues), although it's more designed for going over.
