Thumbs up buttons!!!

i have a 1995 legacy gtb automatic there are two buttons which i am unsure what they do(as they don't appear to do alot) 1st button on gear stick operated be thumb(mate thinks it is a sports button but does not make a difference)should there be a light on the dash if its a sports button? 2nd button just in front of gear lever again does bugger all as far as i can tell, just goes up and down but does not lock into place.

button on gearlever is generally 'power' button just lets the engine rev a little higher between shifts (should be light on dash), unsure about lever unless it's low/high gear selector as per manual car?

2nd button in front of gearlever is gearlever lock, when pressed and held it allows you to move gearlever without the need for foot on brake or key in ignition!
