Default What turbo upgrade for 96STi?

I am looking for more power from my 96STi. The engine has been recently rebuilt by api and pushes out a strong 300bhp with just filter and exhasut mods. To go on the car I have: power fc, autobahn 88 fmic, 550 injectors, adj fuel pressure regulator and hks headers with straight through exhaust. I have been looking to get a new turbo but can't decide. Tempted by an andy forrest 20g td05 but what are the alternatives? I would like it to have lots of torque as much as bhp., looking for 400/400 if possible. What do people think? Thanks in advance

You need to speak to your tuners to determine how to approach 400bhp. I have the mods you are aiming for and more with the original turbo on my 95 car (STI6 engine though) arrived at in three stages after discussion with tuner.

Strengthened engine internals (rods and pistons if not done already) and a stronger gearbox might be on the cards before 400bhp can be supported on a 96 car. Probably a new clutch too, and you don't want to run that power level on the original brakes etc.etc.

It's going to get costly...

MD321H is the turbo you want

mate of mine just had his STi4 rebuilt using 1 of these turbos and made 413 bhp with 386 lb/ft torque. . . only 0.3 second behind me on the 1/4 mile running very low 12s . . . 12.08 iirc

ask David at APi , i'm sure he'd reccommend this turbo

The 321H is lovely so smooth and easy to control with a wide spread of power and great spool.

what pistons and rods went into the engine at the time of the rebuild? are they strong enough to take 400/400?

Later spec pistons I think but not uprated con-rods. I know I could be living on borrowed time but I have heard of people runnning close to this with standard internals.
