Default Missfire mainly at 4k revs

Hello there,

Iposted a while back about a missfire i had, since then it developed into a missfire on idle so i changed the plugs... Lovely and smooth but then it was misfiring, banging popping etc at about 4k ish revs. So i got hold of a second hand set of coilpacks and fitted the two easy ones on and gave it a try.. WOW car ran better than it had in ages and i was able to rev it all the way round with no trouble, This was yesterday... today it is back to its best! misfire at 4k ish sometimes 5 (hard throttle) sometimes 2kish (light throttle!!)

It feels as though its coilpacks still to be honest, and i'm very tempted to buy a brand new genuine set just to rule them out. Just wondered if you guys had any other suggestions to help me out!

Car is a 92 Legacy turbo btw, Practically the same as an early wrx for those that arent sure.

Thanks

Lewis.

Has no1 had anything similar? I have searched and mainly it seems like coils. I'm going to do a compression test tomorrow but it may also be down to far too much fuel going in as the plugs are very black

Hey, I just opened a thread for exactly the same problem a week ago, I have a 96 GT Turbo. Everyone told me that it is the coilpacks. So I bought a set of coilpacks, but they had only 2 in hand, so they sent me those. I replaced them and now I have been having some real fun for a few days But I can feel some missfire when the engine gets hot, not something very noticable though, but i will change the other 2 too. I am waiting for them to arrive.

Change the coilpacks with new ones immediately mate

Ok i will get some ordered up, but it deffo seems like its chucking in far far too much fuel, as it smells VERY rich out of the exhaust and the plugs are really black after only about 500 miles

The same thing happened in here. I also had to change a set of plugs every week.

That is all because of missfiring. Just change the coil packs and life will be much better
