Default Fitting a mechanical boost gauge

I am trying to fit a mechanical boost gauge to an MY01 WRX. Please could someone let me know where the "t fitting" piece is supposed to go? (picture if possible....)

Sorry I know ths must have been discussed a million times, but seached and couldn't see a guide to fitting.....

Thanks

Hi Johnny, I had read somewhere about doing that.

Someone else suggested the pipe going to the boost solonoid; has anyone got any thoughts about that?

i do not know if you will get an accurate reading there as there is a restrictor in the pipe from compressor housing, even if you did i would imagine it would take longer to build up pressure in the pipe to gauge

in my opinion the pipe to dump valve would be best as it is close to the manifold

OK, I have put the pipe into the suggested place......

Next, thought that was the hard bit, but now have to get the pipe inside the car.

What is the best place to do this (i'll worry about securing the pipe inside the engine compartment afterwards). I am going to mount the gauge on the A pillar.

i'm thinking where the bonnet release catch goes at the moment - and then try to feed it up the side somewhere?

The boost gauge wont work on the boost control solenoid feed as it perminatly bleeds air to atmosphere, I used the pipe that comes off the front left hand side of the manifold next to the throttle cable mounting bracket, blanked on newage wrx and goes into a diaphram on newage sti.

There is a gromet in the bulk head just next to the clutch master cylinder that I fed the wires through for my boost gauge, its big enough to feed a pipe through also.

Cheers Nick, have done that, all set-up and working. Think I am going to set-up a website explaining how to do all that as I couldn't find anything useful on Google.

Post something on here, would be very helpful to others who are intending to do this (myself shortly):

The UK MY99 Classic has a blanked off feed on the inlet manifold for the boost gauge tubing to fit on so no need to cut into the DV hose. Its next to the DV Vac pipe going into the inlet manifold IIRC.

Doesnt the MY01 have this as well?

FinalZero; Yes thats a good idea, never used it, but there's always a first time

RB5Caterham; No, the bugeye (and I believe upwards) does not have a spare feed. Not that I could see anyway, and others on here have said before that it doesn't.

Was quite easy in the end (although did have a momentary panic when I found the 't fitting' for the pipe was too small in diameter to plug in securely. Luckily I had another piece of pipe that was slightly smaller and have joined the two together (have checked it is secure and there are no leaks).

The main learning point for me from this simplest of tasks has been that you should always seek advice from someone who has done the job previously before you start (and never rely on instructions that come with these things!!)

I haven't run the wires yet, but will do them from the cigarette lighter or the lights, couldn't do it today though as the kit did not contain enough wire.

Will let you know how that goes.

i'm waiting for a Blitz boost gauge to arrive and assume it'll need an illumination and earth wiring up?
the last gauge i fitted (about 3 years ago so can't remember exactly how i did it) needed 3 wiring as it was a multicolour display so needed constant live for its memory.

I wired it up under the panel to the right of the steering column but i can't remember where the fitting guide was posted?

I was just wondering if you were wiring in a set of stepper motor gauges as the is a good ignition switched (not acc switched) supply at the top of the fuse box to run the gauge(s) off.

I wired mine in to the fog lamp switch on my bugeye. Only a short run of wiring required.

Mine is only back lit (its a Revotec gauge).

What colour wire should I be looking for?

There's a nipple on the manifold where you can plug the pipework into. Its normally just blanked off.

you won't need a t-piece if you plug it into the manifold

I did look for a spare feed from the manifold but was told that they stopped giving a spare feed on newage vehicles. I tee'd into the pipe from the dump value as per numerous suggestions on here.

My current problem is exactly where to wire the backlight into - was going to use the cigarette lighter but got the gauge on the A Pillar, so looking for something more practical on that side - any suggestions? (including colour of the wire if poss !!)

Cheers

there should be an illumination feed at fog light switch as mentioned in previous post.
no idea of wire colour just have a poke around with a meter and find which wire goes live with lights on

Mine is backlit too. I tied into the purple wire and the black wire on the front fog switch, so the gauge illuminates when you switch your headlights on.
If you zoom in on the pic you will see the wires I mean. The 2 blue connectors are crimped onto them.

Mine is a newage so will need to 't' in. So where are people getting the 't' pieces from? The ones I have found appear to have 3mm pipes which are too small!!!!!
