Not really prone to head gasket failure, but the radiator and cooling system can get "sludged up" and also Corrosion starts inside if anti-freeze/inhibitor is not used all year round. If it starts to overheat due to the rad / internal corrosion - it can have a knock on effect with the Head Gaskets.
The early WRX's use a Composite Head Gasket and can be upgraded to the STi "thick steel" head gaskets.
